About Dr Spoudeas
Dr Spoudeas qualified in 1981 from Barts Hospital, London, later obtained Paediatric Specialisation in 1985, and finally attained her postgraduate doctorate (MD) in 1995.
She is a fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and of Child Health (FRCPCH) since 1999 when she became a consultant paediatric endocrinologist at both University College and Great Ormond Street Hospitals and Honorary senior lecturer at the Institute of Child Health where her main NHS practice continues.
Dr Spoudeas joined an innovative split-site team of six endocrine consultants, supporting patients with congenital and acquired endocrine disease in a seamless transition service across Great Ormond Street and UCL Hospitals.
She sees all patients with growth and puberty disorders, whilst maintaining an interest in teaching and training, being instrumental in establishing the paediatric training programmes for the London Deanery, and continuing to supervise postgraduate doctors undertaking paediatric endocrine training and MScs.
Specific clinical research and service development includes endocrine oncology and neuroendocrinology, supporting paediatric oncology and neurosurgical services.
Dr Spoudeas leads the first and largest neuroendocrine surveillance service for children with brain tumours and other cancers, and leads internationally on endocrine aspects of brain tumour trials.

Dr Spoudeas has wide postgraduate teaching experience, holding London Deanery and RCPCH regional specialty paediatric training roles between 2000 and 2009, and subsequently accredited as an educational supervisor of paediatric trainees. Since 1999, Dr Spoudeas continued to hold an honorary associate professor post at the Institute of Child Health, London. This includes supervising paediatric endocrinology MSc and PhD students and also publishing peer-reviewed articles in the neuroendocrine field with mulitprofessional colleagues.
Dr Spoudeas is a recognised international speaker on the conference platform and continue to facilitate, foster and enable paediatric and endocrine collaboration for younger colleagues, advocating for closer multiprofessional research and training.
Since 2013, Dr Spoudeas has chaired a national initiative commissioned by the two foremost societies in paediatric oncology (CCLG) and endocrinology (BSPED) in the UK, to produce RCPCH endorsed guidance to NIHCE methodology on the management of 8 rare paediatric endocrine tumours (3 pituitary and 5 general). These are incrementally being brought to completion and publication since 2020.
